Field Notebooks

We have designed this field notebook in modules so that you can pick and choose which materials you wish to include. Pencils or special waterproof pens should be used to take notes. You will find different versions of the notecards in each of the sections according to what you will need to record for each lesson-- feel free to mix and match the cards to suit your needs.

The pages can be printed out from the Word document in the attachment section at the bottom of the page. If you print them on 4 x 6 cards you can make a notebook that fits in your pocket and is sturdy enough to be used without a clipboard. If you use metal clip rings you can add pages and continue to expand the notebook for use on multiple field trips.

You can modify the field notes any way you wish-- but try to include prompts for all of the important information you plan to record, and make sure that your notes will be understandable when someone else looks at them in future years (make notes explaining any abbreviations, add the year to the date line, etc.). Your notes could turn out to be really valuable if something happens, and you can use them when you report problems to the Riverkeeper.
